Potty Training Day One

Written on June 1, 2011

I wanted to write down about today before I forgot all the painful/gross/insane/funny/disgusting things that occurred in the Tarrant Household.

Yes, we covered our cushions in trash bags (trust me it was a good idea)

We decided that it was time to potty train the girls and quite frankly I felt I had been putting in off. It is a little sad…I mean I assume Chris and I will have more but who knows and this is kinda the last baby thing, other than cribs and they might be six before we do that! Anyways I decided it was just time…After reading the 3 day potty training book, that many many other moms of multiples recommended, and after a pep talk from Suz. I went to bed pumped up and excited to start this new adventure. HA, boy I had NO IDEA what to expect. Plus I was doing all this without Chris. Which was poor planning on my part, looking back at it. I wanted to do it with out him I thought it would be easier. When people say this is hard they are right, it was hard. When people say it was easy and they had no problem, I don’t believe them now. Ha, well maybe I believe you but not today.

So the book says to get ready for the day before you child or children are awake and that you can start the process ready.

Chris and I spent a long time the night before setting up for the big day.

We had a bunch of snacks and juice handy so I didn’t have to leave the room.

IMG_1787 I had a TON of prizes for our successes…ha!

IMG_1788

We had LOTS of books and movies about the potty!

IMG_1792

Lots of new movies to keep the girls entertained.

IMG_1793

I set my alarm at 7:15 planning to shower, dress and do a few things for the morning…but the girls had other ideas they decided to wake up at 7:20 and they usually don’t wake up until 8-8:30. No big, right…I’m ready to do this!?! ha.

I started out feeding the girls and talking about how we were going to be big girls now and etc, etc. We started by pulling off the diapers and saying bye bye diapers.

As soon as the girls were by their potties they wanted to try…ok! Kinley pees in the potty within 5 mins of starting…YAY, I think! ha…

Madelyn didn’t really do anything at first no success no accidents just nothing. I said “tell Mama when you need to pee pee, ok?” every 30 secs. Or least felt like that often. Just about the time I thought, huh this isn’t too bad it got bad, no something out of a scary movie bad. It was like everytime I turned around someone was peeing! they would even just take their panties off and pee on the floor.

IMG_1809

Text from me to Chris (and various friends): Kinley just peed like a boy standing in the middle of the living room. You seriously had to see it to believe it but there she was standing like she was a fountain. It went down hill from there, pee was everywhere. Pretty sure Madelyn even slipped on pee at one point. I couldn’t clean it up fast enough. We went through an entire case of Lysol wipes and two loads of laundry. I remember looking at the clock and it said 9:58 AM…are you kidding me!

We watched movies, we colored, we blew bubbles and then did it all over again. All while saying “tell mommy when you have to pee pee already, ok?” It was rough to say the VERY least.

IMG_1825

Throughout the rest of the day we had 2 other successes (1 more from Kinley and 1 from Madelyn) and COUNTLESS accidents. We ate lunch and more of the same.

IMG_1827

We had planned for Chris to be here while the girls napped so I could run out and get my hair cut. Best part of the planning of the potty training. I SOOOO needed the time out of the house.

When I got home I even had time to check email and just get ready for round 2…

Kinley started having to carry this towel everywhere and made me wrap it around her all the time.

IMG_1835

Once the girls woke up, Madelyn had pooped and peed in her pull-up…yes don’t judge we aren’t doing naptime and night training right now. We cleaned it up explained that we put poop and pee in the potty and put the panties back on. We then had no accidents or successes. It was strange, Kinley wasn’t really into drinking after nap but Madelyn was drinking and ton and wasn’t doing anything. My cousin Elayna comes over to do laundry and asked if she could come today, I warned her. She was AMAZING and actually stuck around and helped and brought ice cream!

Madelyn didn’t pee after nap, her stomach was rock hard so we knew she had to pee. I walked out of the room for two seconds and she started peeing and Elayna threw her on the potty! She started screaming, Madelyn hates being wet!!! I think seconds after that, both girls were screaming and peeing. Pee everywhere, Elayna stepped on a juice box at the same time so there was juice everywhere too. It was intense and hard emotionally and physically challenging for all involved!

Madelyn got a little silly at one point.

They of course needed a bath and we were more than ready for bedtime!

Happy Father’s Day 2011

Father’s day this year was a busy one! My Dad’s birthday was also on the same day. I wish we would have gotten some pictures with My dad and the girls. We snapped these of Chris and the girls when we were headed over to my parents for his birthday dinner! Not the best the girls were ready to get in the car to go see their poppy!

while mama is away…

While I was away on my twin mama trip, Chris completely took over. No one else watched the girls at all..usually when I go out of town we coordinate sitters, for during the week. Everything fell through so Chris took off and watched the girls. Thanks babe, you are the best! Oh and the girls had only been doing the potty thing for a week (more on that soon)

He even took the girls to the library to see Mimi. He did great all week, minus their hair. Which you will see in the pictures.

I think this may be my fav new picture of Maddie

The Mavs were in the playoffs (in case you didn’t know) while I was out of town. Instead of missing it he showed the girls how to watch basketball…He said they sat through the whole thing.

IMG_2159So proud of our boys becoming National Champs! GO MAVS! The girls will say go Mavs and Dirk!

IMG_2160

Some of the girls friends had a party while I was gone. Chris was nervous but went ahead and braved a party by himself. Amy’s (one of the moms on our trip) husband Richie was there too so that helped him brave it! I think he did pretty good, Except he forgot sunscreen and towels…OOPS! Thanks to Melissa for bailing him out. HA!

Twin Mamas Off Duty 2011

We were so excited that we all got to get together this year after our first great trip! We even added two new mamas this year that couldn’t make it last year. It so great to have a group of women who know what you go through having twins…it’s amazing how all of us who met through our blogs and would not have known each other if it wasn’t for our children can get along so well!!! I didn’t realize how much I had missed these ladies until we were all together again…once a year seems too long.

I’m lucky enough to get to live close enough to Shelley and Amy and we can travel together!

IMG_1940

It’s wonderful to realize that you have the weekend to relax with no kids and look out at this!

IMG_8407 Where we stayed on our getaway!

IMG_8414 Britni decided to add to her family this year, so Amy and I planned a shower! We choose Cookies and Milk theme…which turns out to be Britni’s favorite snack! I thought it was cute for a shower on the road!

Leah’s AMAZING thumbprints….Melt in your mouth good!

IMG_1946

IMG_8405

Britni! Can I just say looks AMAZING carrying that baby boy! Yes, just one this time!

IMG_0588

Our entertainment for the weekend! HUGE thanks to Brad Hutton for dealing with getting it to us!!! You are the best!

IMG_0616

The preggo was our captain. This girl is good at everything! We might have sunk that boat if it wasn’t for her! Britni, you amaze me every time I am around you…which is not near enough! She is truly a SUPER MOM! Mrs. Multi-tasker!

IMG_8416

My sweet Amy! We call ourselves soul sisters and it couldn’t be more true. We have a ton of the same interests. Amy, you know how I feel about ya! I just wish we would have known each other in college. (we went to the same college at the same time and didn’t know it)

IMG_0609 Hannah, our resident photog! I love having her taking pictures. It’s like having Chris on the trip and she deals with me making her take tons of pictures. Hannah and I knew each other in college and I LOVE that I know her better now! LOVE her!

IMG_1963

Hannah and Leah. Leah was a new addition to our group this year. Girl, I am sooo glad you came. I had a blast getting to know you better and CAN’T wait to spend more time with you. Plus I want to meet your boys…She is the only one in our group with boy/boy twins! Leah you are rocking the skinny arm ;)

alt

My sweet Shelley…words can’t describe how much I love you…She has the oldest set of twins (3.5) and is always ahead of us so she is always there to help us out! Such a sweet heart!

alt

Kristi, also known as Alex and Avery’s mama! That is what Kinley and Maddie are screaming as I type this. Everytime we see each other we find out something else we have in common. Even our husbands have things in common. For example our pregnancies were pretty much the same. We had to deliver for the same reason. We were like the exact same time along and had our girls 5 days apart. I just wish we knew each other while we were preggo! (yes, I am sunburned)

alt We spent the next day laying by the pool then back on the boat! Not enough pictures but we had a great time.

Us all together for our last night together.

alt To my twin Mama BFF’s-I love you all and so glad we have found each other…You all mean the world to me. Can’t wait to see you again, hopefully it’s sooner than later!

Also-My wonderful husband was awesome enough to let me go on our trip even though it was our 5 year anniversary!

I love you so much and can't wait to see what the next five years hold...wonder if it will be as exciting as the last five have!?! Happy Anniversary Chris!
